Dr Pedro Fernandez

On 15 October 2026, Maria Elena Cuomo, President of the Cuomo Foundation, welcomed Dr Pedro Fernandez to the Foundation’s headquarters in Monaco.

An agricultural engineer from Argentina, Dr Fernandez has received the Cuomo Foundation’s support for his academic and research work since 2019.

From 2019 to 2021, he held a prestigious IPCC scholarship for young scientists from developing countries. After completing his thesis, “Link between perceptions and adoption of silvopastoral systems and environmental variables in the Argentine dry Chaco”, he continued his research at Humboldt University in Germany, deepening his expertise in livestock farming, ecosystems and environmental sustainability.

His subsequent project, “Understanding the Geography of Cattle Farming in the Dry Forests of South America”, received funding from the Cuomo Foundation for the period 2022–2023. The research sought to better understand cattle farming in fragile forest ecosystems and the environmental challenges associated with land use in South America.

In 2023, Dr Fernandez also participated in the Re.Generation programme, organised by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and supported by the Cuomo Foundation. The programme supports emerging leaders and encourages innovative solutions to global environmental challenges.
